Now that up both 1920 x 1080 HD video and up to 7.1 channels of digital surround sound audio can be transmitted through a single HDMI cable, it has become much simpler to set up a complete 1080p high definition home theater system in your own home.
Generally, you'll want to separately connect each of your 1080p / high definition source components such as a Blu-ray Disc player, Sony PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 video game console, and/or HD TV tuner/DVR using an HDMI cable to one of the HDMI inputs on the back side of your home theater receiver, and then run a single HDMI cable from the HDMI output on the back of the receiver to an HDMI input on your 1080p HDTV or projector.

Each of the home theater receiver with speaker system packages pictured in the above Amazon Carousel includes a 7.1 channel home theater receiver with multiple 3D-ready HDMI inputs and 1080p HDMI ouput bundled with a six-piece 5.1 surround sound speaker system. (You can separately purchase additional satellite speakers if/when you wish to set up 7.1 speakers.)
You will also need to separately purchase enough (in-wall) speaker wire to connect each of your surround speakers, plus a subwoofer cable to connect your powered subwoofer to the receiver.
