The two types of flat panel 1080p HDTVs on the market today are 1080p LCD TVs and 1080p plasma TVs. They are called flat panel televisions because their thin form factor typically measures less than 5 inches deep (significantly thinner than the bulkier, heavier CRT picture tube and rear projection TVs of the past). With optional wall-mount hardware and sturdy enough walls, you can mount a flat panel TV on the wall.

Television Wall Mounts!

A 1080p rear projection television is a great choice for those who want an incredible picture, but don't necessarily have to own the thinnest, wall-mounted high definition television on the block. Basically, rear projection HDTVs offer you a much BIGGER TV screen size (up to 73 inches diagonal) for a lower price. Projection TVs are usually between 10 and 18 inches in depth and almost all of them are not wall-mountable.  The three common kinds of 1080p projection TV technologies are DLP, LCD, and LCOS.

A 1080p front projector can display the largest high definition picture of all (up to 10 diagonal feet or more), but to get the best possible results, you need to install it inside a darkened room with minimal ambient lighting. You'll need to separately buy a projection screen.

You'll also have to add a home theater audio system because 1080p projectors don't have built-in speakers (even if they did, they wouldn't give you surround sound). To view television programs, you'll also need to have a separate HDTV receiver and access to HD TV programming from satellite, cable, or a television antenna because video projectors lack TV tuners.

Speaking of high definition programming, the best resolution that is currently available from satellite, cable, or off-the-air from an antenna is 1080i. To experience the very best that your 1080p television or projector has to offer, be sure to connect one or more 1080p Full HD source components using HDMI cable!
